love the hermit crabs
we've hit a lot of places on this
teeny earth of ours--
and on the island of bonaire
as i prepared to go for a swim...
i almost squashed these guys!
i saved their lives
but wanted to snap some pictures
before they hit the road :)
i love them.

greetings from maegan's bay
i have many favorite places in the world--where if i had
magic powers
i would definitely pop on over whenever
stress threatens.
maegan's bay in st. thomas
is hands down
one of the most beautiful beaches
in the entire world
the writer in me could sit there
for endless hours
just imagining and writing...
while the rest of me...
would just wanna float around all day in those waters...
so i did just that.
so did LML...
happy thanksgiving eve!!

For an almost- complete around the world beer list, go here!
There is nothing stopping you from trying everything you'd like--
for us, one of those things that we enjoy doing while traveling is enjoying culinary treasures (so that I can re-create, or attempt to, back in New York)
and sampling wines, beers, and other local beverages (alcoholic and non-alcoholic!)
Above are some of my shots...
in no order--
and some sideways (sorry! i did not participate
in the drinking of these beers whilst posting)
We have tried quite a few beers from almost everywhere-- can't get enough!
Any beer stories? Please post and I will credit and linky you!
love!

wouldn't you know it?
our last day--our last hours-- in bermuda,
and we stumble upon this beach.
so now we have to go back
and swim in it.
happy day to you!

kalamata- it's not only olives
"so, i'm greek, right?"
one of my most favorite lines from 'My Big Fat Greek Wedding'.
being a Greek means that if your family had the means, you've had summers in Greece at least once in your life.
I've had about 20 summers in Greece, give or take.
being a Greek means that you have to travel to Greece at least once after you get married...be it to another Greek (which is preferred by most hardcore Greeks, or wanna-be hardcore Greeks) or to a xeno (which means a non-Greek).
have fun trying to bring a Greek who doesn't speak, read or write Greek down to Greece to meet your family- especially if you're married. Fortunately, we didn't have that problem.
Our only problem? Where will we pick up our breakfast before we get to the beach?
LML and I had two requisites for summers in Kalamata- constant access to the beach and some R&R throughout the day.
done and done.
I remember that there were days we would go to the beach twice- in the morning and then during sunset. It was beautiful to watch the sun setting high in the sky while swimming...floating in the arms of your one and only.
The 45 minute walks to get to the beach, and back were also crazy worth it- probably because of our never-ending conversations. We loved walking by cafenia (cafes), watching the tourists (haha), snapping pictures (me- and LML telling me not to because we'd look like tourists)... and the amount of exercise we got between all that walking and all the swimming would lead ultimately to...
gelato.
Now, i don't have any pictures of the gelatos we would get. Why? Because the last summer we were there, my camera decided to kick the bucket about one day into our one month vacation.
Oh, Gelato.
Our nights consisted of: waking after our ciesta- getting all dolled up and hitting a different cafe for coffee or a beer (we'd sampled all the beers in kalamata during our last summer there)...or hitting the hookah cafe on the beach and watching the bellydancers... or going for the most incredible pizza in the world at Pizza Roma.
Ho. Ly. Cow.
Holy Pizza.
food...beach...swimming...r + r...what else is vacation all about?

a hamptons beach day
back in 2009,
we visited friends in the hamptons.
courteously, they took us to the most
impressive beach that we've ever been to
in new york.
being the greek babies that we are
LML and I have been very spoiled
as to what we think are good beaches...
but we're thinking that at some point this summer
we definitely have to hit this place up again!

travel: aruba
i've been reading so much about aruba lately-
it's literally popping up everywhere!
i guess it all started back in may,
when i found a really cool article in New York magazine.
things to know about aruba:
- 18 miles north of Venezuela
- dry climate
- can literally go there all year round
- if you want a lazy swimming day, go to the beach on the west coast
- west coast if you want to snorkel, kitesurf, waterski, and parasail
- east coast ("wild coast") to hunt for coves carved out of limestone
- shop! malls and boutiques are downtown
- Bon Bini festival in Oranjestad every Tuesday
- first ever Aruba film festival was this past June
- a lot of aloe, a LOT of cactus'!
there is so much more i have to tell you about aruba...but i am taking my time. there is so much to share!
love me,
the globetrotting gamine
