i wish

i wish that i can tell you in detail what's been going on!

there is so much to share, and it's killing me that i can't. it really is.

in the meantime, i don't even have access to my own computer right now. the charger died and i am waiting for the replacement in the mail.

the Globetrotting Gamine is going to be undergoing some small changes, that should have the kinks worked out by fall.

(because i love fall)

in other news: it's Oprah's last two shows, today and tomorrow. I am really sad about it- and i don't usually get caught up in media hype (unless it's trying to find a link to the actual preview of twlight: breaking dawn) She has inspired so many to do so much, so I think a little of my inspiration to- ahem- change a few things comes from her.

It will give me a chance to catch up on shows I've missed and books that she's recommended for her book club. yay!

ah- yes. speaking of books- i am working diligently on mine, securing an agent or well- known and awesome publisher, etc. that'll give me some headway into completing the rest of the items on my to-do list.

FRIDAY- was the best career day ever. I have been on both sides of the career day spectrum, but i have to say- P S 209 is such an awesome school. I did one of my internship's there and going back reminded me why I loved school counseling so. Of course, P.S. 209 was such a big difference from where I had gone on to work that it's practically ridiculous.

I absolutely enjoyed the children in the classes I visited. They were so great- and so smart! I admit to wanting to take a few of them home with me but I don't think their parents would have appreciated that much. (Hell, I would miss them!)

It was also an opportunity to meet a lot of great authors and people of different career backgrounds.

So a big whopping thank you to P.S. 209- i love you so :)

NOTE:: Again, I apologize for the lack of photo on today's post. I'm working on my photography portfolio (hush hush)

How has your weekend been? Do you have any good plans for Memorial Day weekend? I would love to hear them :)

love love love me,
the globetrotting gamine

i love oprah and creativity

January 11, 2011

“The point of creativity is to express and challenge yourself, to make meaning, to embrace your life.”
— Peggy Orenstein

that's how my oprah e-mail started off yesterday. it's so true. and i love the articles that followed it...i'm always on the same wavelength...

7 Ways to Spark Your Creativity

Instant inspiration, courtesy of designer Anna Rabinowicz

1. Read Not a Box, by Antoinette Portis

A rabbit sits in a cardboard box and uses his imagination to transform it into a racecar, a mountain, a robot. The lesson? "Anything can be anything," Anna says.

2. Go outside
Nature informs most of Anna's designs: "A pinecone, a caterpillar, some gnarled gourds from a pumpkin patch—the natural world is full of bizarre, beautiful stuff."

3. Start a collection
Curating your own little exhibit of similar objects makes you more attuned to what's special about each one. "Try to figure out why the designers made the choices they did, and you'll get a peek into their creative process," Anna says. "I collect toothbrushes. They have to do something very specific—and it's not a very exciting something—but their simplicity is an opportunity for imaginative design."

4. Touch stuff
Everywhere Anna goes, she picks up objects she sees. "I get acquainted with a thing's thing-ness. I experience it with my hands, not just my eyes."

5. Travel solo
"Once in a while, go somewhere alone," says Anna. "It's much easier to experience everything around you and to cover lots of ground. I decided to be a designer at the top of the Antoni Gaudí cathedral in Barcelona, because I was so moved by the architecture." But you don't necessarily have to cross an ocean. "You can get inspired by traveling practically anywhere, as long as you're open to what you see."

6. Go analog
"Don't check your e-mail when you're creating," Anna says. "Nothing earth-shattering is going to happen in an hour or two."

7. Grab every opportunity
Hosting a group of friends? Make party favors. Received a gift? Write a handwritten note. "If you're having dinner at home tonight," Anna says, "why not make something you never made before?"

Alicia's Shopping list

(as written on Oprah.com, January 21, 2010)

When Alicia Silverstone went vegan, she was afraid she'd never have a good meal again. "I ended up realizing I'm eating even better food than I ever was eating before," she says. "You don't have to sacrifice taste one bit."

Follow Alicia on a trip to the grocery store.

Not sure if you could make the change? Just try her list of vegan must-haves. "I'm going to show you all the things that I love and basically just show you that you can flirt with a healthy lifestyle. It doesn't have to be scary."
