the great legging escapade

since my weight-loss...
i have come to wearing a uniform of leggings and flowy shirts
or jackets.

one saturday, while it was still snowy...
LML and I found an opportunity to find one
such pair of nice black leggings.
on sunday morning?
i realize that he purchased an extra small?!

extra small??? do i look like an extra small to you?, i ask...
yep, LML says.
right. my ass is NOT getting in these.
yes it is.
oh god.

so we pull on the pair of leggings...
as a team effort.
and the effort doesn't go unrewarded,
because once past my hips
they feel great.

whew.

whew?

continuing our sunday morning, we made our way
to a little cafe called avenue, in astoria, new york...
to have a frappe, which is as close to a "GREEK" frappe as
you're going to get
without you going to greece :)

while sitting down, i pull my coat up around my legs
because the cafe was busy and people kept
coming in and out of the door next to us.

finishing our frappe, we had to continue on
to our food shopping adventure at
the local fresh-food market.
i figured, now is a good time to go to the bathroom
because the sugar in the frappe
(in greek, pronounced  FRA- peh)
is enough to make anyone loopy if they
don't get it out of their system fast enough.

so...
and sorry if i get icky for you here...
as i go to pull down my leggings, what do i see?

my thigh.
a ball of my thigh sticking out
the gaping hole
right near my crotch.

egads!
uh-oh.
good thing i bought the coat with me to the bathroom!
good thing the coat covers my bottom!
omg
imagine if i wore that vest this morning
that didn't cover anything??!

so i hurry out of the bathroom
and whisper into LML's ear...

houston, we have a problem.

what?

there is a hole in my leggings. near my crotch. we have to go.
block my ass just in case.

let me see.

uh NO. there are PEOPLE here EATING FOOD.
hell to the no.

this does not stop him from going to the fruit market.
this does not stop us from walking...
carefully...
to the shops up the block (thank GOD)

and finally...
FINALLY
finding another pair of leggings
that literally...
saved my ass.

or rather, my thigh.

the moral of the story here is: always check on your leggings :)

love,
mg

Thanksgiving Extravaganza!

The year is 2009. We have been watching the parade for almost 30 years (we defined as me, BFF, and LML!) Since we were little, we have all said that we should go (again, all three of us!) So, this year we did!

Our day started at 4:30 am, though mine had never ended and let's not ask why! A very cranky me attempts to push LML up out of bed while pup looks on with interest. He knew, of course, that Mommy was going to win this battle. I did. Wake up phone call from BFF, and a few minutes later we were on our way to Astoria, New York.

Note: Have I ever told you about Neptune Diner? This is a diner that holds many memories for us all...especially me and BFF! We've been going there since we were tiny kids, and LML has been a loyal patron for a little over 10 years now. It is voted the best Diner in New York practically every year, and is known for many a dish as well as their hospitality. Love it love it love it!

We stop off there for ammo- we know we have a long trek once we get to Manhattan! After a few cups-o-joe, we are on our way to the Big Apple to await the fun that is our biggest parade of the year! And we were lucky enough to get seats! We waited about 2 and a half hours before the parade actually began, but LML found us the best seats in the house! So we saw all these guys:

and so much more! I won't bore you with the pictures unless it's by request...so leave me a comment and I will post as many as I can in other posts!

What are some fun things that happened to you on Thanksgiving?

Love love love,
MG

Weekend Menu/New York, New York

Such a big state- no one realizes how big a place it is. When one thinks about coming to New York, they only think about the city. That's not all there is to it! There are so many towns and suburbs, and places that are worth mentioning that I don't think a lot of people mention.

Take a part of Astoria, Queens for example. Steinway St. to most, is the only place where they will shop. There is a stretch of hookah bars, supermarkets (of Arabic and Greek descent), cafes, and shops. Family-owned boutiques live harmoniously next to well-known stores like Express, New York and Company, Modells (how do you spell that, again?) I must, MUST get my camera back to take some pictures, but the point of the matter is that you can find ALMOST everything there. You can even take the train in from Manhattan right there. Sushi, falafel, Greek food? Indian, Thai, Sushi?

Speaking of sushi- big Gamine kiss to the guys over at Yamashiro (30-27 Steinway Street, Astoria NY 11103) LML and I were famished, and were stopped by the big lunch special sign. $1.50 for a california roll AND another $1.50 for a sweet potation roll? Another 3 rolls (to be chosen from this great big list) for $9? Sure!

So we ate. Like hogs...let's see (of course, again not having my camera...) one california roll, 2 sweet potato rolls, one boston roll, salmon&avocado roll, eel&avocado roll, spicy yellowfish roll, spicy crabmeat roll AND a spicy shrimp tempura roll!!!!

Yum. Oh yum. These guys really know what they're doing. And the ambiance? Perfect. Such a rare treat to find in Astoria!

Hope you guys can hit it if you're in town! Our money is on the spicy yellowfish roll, for whoever is a true sushi fanatic!

More on rare NY finds soon!! And gripes, vents and updates from and about me!!

Much Love,

MG
