life: twisty turny, part 1

it's no joke that october is always a crazy month for me.
it really, truly is.

after a wonderful bout of illness, antibiotics and medicine, i have [finally] gotten back to my old self!

first off, i've been booking appointments to doctors. all kinds. ugh. moving on.

• i've booked author signings! another huge milestone for me- please check my facebook page for details.
• one of the most exciting things about this month is that we've celebrated our 12 years and one month dating anniversary/church-wedding anniversary. 
• in december, we celebrate the fact that we got married 3 times before we turned 25! we like to think that it's a huge milestone and to celebrate again...
• we're going away at some point in december! that means some more crazy adventures with my soulmate.
• then, there's halloween based fun. isn't that enough?
• my 'book launch' is this weekend.
• we are shipping some book packages off to family and friends in Greece.
• i've been working on my other book ventures- children's books, fictional novels and historical/pictorials. basically, i'm working on my empire around the clock.

there are so many celebrations to be had, and so many things to do before we bring in 2013. I will definitely be posting and hope that you'll follow my craziness.

enhance your life- patio edition

things you should know:

i can't put patio furniture outside in my yard because 20 cats live there and LML is allergic to them.
i save articles of things i'm going to need, and figured it best to put them on my blog to purge paper.
i love design, anything that has to do with domestics: i'm addicted.

so how to make you patio a wow?

1. create a spot for lounging...another for drinking...another for food/eating...

(my bestie has this down pat! she's quite awesome)

2. light up the area- solar lights, twinkle lights, battery powered lights, torches.

3. stay warm- break out that fire pit or energy lamp. also, the warm blankets just in case.

4. dress up the furniture with budget-friendly burlap. find cheap white pillowcases, and use for the backs of chairs. tie them with ribbon.

5. create a theme- menu, decor and music...i would do Moroccan first!

(i'm greek. we do the greek thing all  the time anyway :)

my best friend's bridal shower

my best friend is getting married this month.
i've known her since college, and she was one of the first people
other than my family, who would call me on my crap :)

this was rare to me then,
but what i always wanted in a friend.

i am so so so excited for her and her fiance :))

Entertaining

Last year, I apparently ripped out an article from Domino Mag (aw, I miss that magazine) about entertaining. Note: I have entertained MANY times in the past, but alas have had no time to as of late. It's going to take a while to hold the kind of soiree we know we can have....but all good things come to those who wait :)

The article asked entertaining tips of Rita Konig and Allison Sarofim.
-Rita is the author of "Domestic Bliss", which is awesome and you must pick it up, or at least glance at it at the bookstore. (You may wind up buying it, trust me!)
-Allison is a socialite who has tried her hand at everything, including: writing, restaurateuring, acting, and art collecting.

Great ideas for party throwing?

Rita's ideas:

• Buy vintage postcards on ebay and mail them out two weeks in advance, for a fancy holiday party.
• Best tip of the whole article: Hire a bartender! "You can enjoy the night, rather than spend it fixing cocktails." She serves one distinctive drink, like a rye Manhattan. Konig says, "Whisey is wonderfully wintery!" (If she needs more, she runs to the wine store for prosecco.)
• Her motto: "Do one thing, but do it beautifully."

What made me smile is that she rings New York's Tea and Sympathy to request that the food they will be making to be cooked in her own ramekins. So cute...

Allison's ideas:

• Invitations: She uses handwritten cards from calligrapher Margaret Neiman Harber, who uses penmanship styles that date to the 18th century (I need to look into taking classes for this!)
• Dinner seems laid back, and Allison also calls for one signature drink at the soiree...but dessert?
• Ah, dessert! ...flat out extravagant, the article says. "an antique English buffet laid with dainty pastel macaroons, rich Vosges chocolates (shop at 1100 Madison Avenue, New York. I passed by it yesterday but sadly, did not have a chance to go inside! Boo..), irresistible caramel popcorn balls- and vanilla milk shakes garnished with peppermint straws."

HEAVEN.

NYE Gala

This New Year's Eve, we partied our tushies off, so to speak. Yes, the pinot grigio got to my head. The jack-n-cokes LML was having got to his head...and we laughed and danced the night away. Did I mention that the ambiance was heavenly? Please check out the following pictures:
